This is the Count Down until the XP goes out of extended support and into End of Life!

DON’T PANIC! it’s not the end of the world after all.

Even after this date Windows will continue to start and run as usual. All this means is that after this date Windows XP SP3 will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update (XP sp2 and 1, Vista SP1 and even windows 7 without SP1 already don’t receive or have issues with updates!). These include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. However third party anti-virus products will be available for a while, and there are other ways to protect critical XP based systems such as cutting them off from the internet for one!

Windows Update also installs the latest software updates to improve the reliability of Windows—new drivers for your hardware and more. So you will probably find that it’s harder and harder to install new hardware into your PC. However I doubt many people will be upgrading XP hardware, and the system is quite mature now so it’ll probably keep going for a while.

All is not lost.

With six months still go to there is still plenty of time to plan for it’s departure and now is the time if you haven’t already to budget to replace some of your aging XP kit anyway. New computers, especially based on windows 7, 8 and shortly 8.1 are much faster even with the same hardware. They are designed to work with the latest hardware and applications. The Microsoft PC ecosystem has for years been designed to work best, fastest and more reliably when on running complementary versions. XP and office 2003, Vista and Office 2007, windows 7 and Office 2010 and now Windows 8 and Office 2013.
