Sway Vs PowerPoint

For a long time, PowerPoint has been the go-to software for presentations. Now there is a new kid on the block, and it goes by the name of Sway. Here we shall look at the two programs. This may help you to decide which would work best for your presentations.

Microsoft Office Applications

Both these programs are from the Microsoft office suite. So, if you are an Office 365 user you will have access to both. It will also mean that the layout and controls will be familiar to you.  Sway is a web-based program, which is free to use to anyone with a Microsoft account, whereas PowerPoint is a desktop-based program, for Office 365 account holders.

PowerPoint has been around awhile, and as such is the more well-known program. As it is licenced, you need to have the Office suite. As it is desktop based it integrates well with other office suite programs. This allows you to pull in graphs and charts from Excel, clipart and designs from Publisher as well as add sounds and video.

Sway is web-based and is not licenced. It is free to use. Sway is more of a storytelling app with which you can create snappy presentations, reports, and newsletters. Sway allows you to pull in content from throughout the internet. This includes content from Facebook, YouTube, and other multimedia sites. If you have an Office 365 account, you can utilize your One drive account to store your sways, collaborate with others in your organisation, and use content from your other programs within your sways.

So, what’s the difference?

You can share and co-edit a sway with just a URL, plus it adapts dynamically to the size of the screen viewed.

PowerPoint is the wieldier program but as such, it means you can perform many more tasks and create a more data-intensive presentation.

In business, Sway is probably more suited to making those trendy marketing presentations and PowerPoint more useful for presenting the annual budgets and turnover.

We believe both programs have their place in your Office 365 repertoire of tools, do look at both and see for yourself.
